The Rocktopus
Carving in stone is an absolute joy as well as a significant challenge. I enjoy playing with opposing concepts such as carving a Cephalopod, which is the softest of forms, out of stone, which is the hardest of materials.
This piece is held in a private collection and is not for sale.
Collaborative work is the best kind of work
This collaboration project with Master Sculpture Glade S. Davis started by my picking the rough stone and the subject, sculpting the primary forms and then Glade put his master level skill to work putting in the Suckers, Funnels and Eye slits. He then started the Mantel texture. This is where I took over and finished the texturing pass and fine tuning of the finished piece, measuring 8"x5"x5".
